Learning to Park

Here on Stokes Croft one weekday morning, we see the L-plated car from "Drive" showing everyone how to park to get into the post office. Veer across the road -so avoiding a dangerous road crossing yourself, and then use the double yellow lines under the bike lane.

We hope a student is picking up these valuable lessons, and it is not just the driver in WM09FJE doing some errands.

Elsewhere, on Kingsley Road -parallel to Gloucester Road, behind the arches- we see a P-plated car showing it has understood the lessons

Yes, they have parked so as to not interfere with passing vehicles on this one-way road.

Yet poor R852UWO has somehow got a ticket? Why? Who is persecuting innocent drivers merely for choosing safe and convenient parking? When will this anti-car program of an anti-car council ever stop?

  1. To be fair to driving instructors (my sister's one) I think that's a courtesy car from Drive Vauxhall rather than a driving school car.

  2. The Blue Polo was mine *shame* and I learnt my lesson. . a 70 pound lesson. I am aware at no point should a car be on double yellows. But, the parking is an absolute nightmare around here and people are forever on double yellow lines and/or 4 streets up. I would have moved my car shortly after parking it but I was issued a ticket at 7.45am on a saturday so I thought it best to go to bed and negotiate finding a parking space at 9. Hopefully, easing the process as some people are off to work!

  3. We were pretty surprised to see it ticketed there too, given it is a back road with no pedestrian traffic. I note that nobody bothers with the "lost pavement" of Eastfield road.

  4. Robyn, you say you are aware no car should ever be parked on double yellows, but if you only parked a further 6 inches up on the pavement you wouldn't have been! Please take more care in future to ensure you park fully on the pavement, no one who matters walks anywhere anymore so put them redundant pavements to use!
PS only an hour and a quarter's sleep? That's impressive!

  5. I'm quite surprised Bristol hasn't got a car club tbh. Or is the public transport as bad as Hampshires, LOL?

  6. Bristol does have a car club. But it also has FirstBus as the public transport, which is dire.
