Well, for starters there aren't any of those educational establishment zig-zag white lines that indicate the parking zone for dropping-off/waiting/just fancying stopping there because it's convenient...
ReplyDeleteMixed messages I think. Perhaps it's all part of the shared space strategy, to sow confusion so that nobody is sure what to do. I mean you do drive or cycle more cautiously and deferentially if you're going through a no-entry sign, don't you?
ReplyDeleteThe pedestrian gate is closed forcing schoolkids into the way of cars. This slows down important parents driving their kids to school.
ReplyDeleteThat's a No Entry sign? -crikey, I wondered why people sometimes wave and call to me when I drive round Brizzle. I thought they were just being friendly.
ReplyDeleteI was over in Northern Ireland last year, and at the motorway exit they had red flashing lights round the no-entry sign, which I thought was overkill, till 5 minutes later, driving down a one way street the correct way, someone came up the other direction at speed. We concluded they had special "really no entry" signs for those occasions when you really mustn't ignore the one-way signs.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, in the US, they have these "wrong way" signs on the off-ramps of freeways, so anyone driving the wrong way down them gets told more than once to stop it.
In both cases, it must happen enough that it is worth spending the money to put the signs up
The overall impression is that the car is the proper way to access this educational establishment. Good to teach yound people the right values.

ReplyDeleteClearly there is a parking area before the gates, as the road markings indicate you may enter. There's nowhere to go before the gates, though, other than park. You can probably fit three cars there and still leave enough space to let a car come out through the gates.
ReplyDeleteOn that theme -the footpath is closed by a gate and there are no double yellow lines on the corner -meaning there is also room to put a car on the pavement just there, where its wing mirrors will be protected.
